Free printable fall word search puzzles, also known as autumn word searches: the whole season in one puzzle, from falling leaves to pumpkins and the harvest.
Pick a level and download the PDF (answer key included)
This page holds the general fall puzzle, in five formats. Easy (12x10 grid, 10 words) sticks to words nearly every child already knows, and words run only across and down. Medium (15x15, 20 words) adds diagonals and more specific seasonal vocabulary. Hard (20x20, 35 words) uses all eight directions, including reversed words.
Large Print (15x12 grid, 22 pt) reuses the Medium list at full difficulty for readers who prefer bigger type, and the Giant edition packs 100 fall words into a 35x35 grid. Specific themes such as pumpkins, leaves or back to school have their own puzzles in the Fall collection.
Fall and autumn are two names for the same season, so these puzzles work whichever word you use. Every printable PDF includes its answer key on page 2 and is reviewed before publication.

Twenty words: the Easy list plus fall flavors and traditions such as cider, bonfire and hayride.
Diagonal words appear here for the first time, so scanning takes real attention rather than a straight read.
It sits between a beginner puzzle and a real challenge.
Vocabulary analysis
Measured directly from this puzzle's own grid — not a generic estimate.
With an average word length of 6.4 letters, this puzzle is densely packed at 56.4% grid coverage — less empty space means fewer easy gaps to scan past, so finding each word takes closer attention. 3 of its words share letters with at least one other word on the list, so a single letter in the grid can belong to more than one hidden answer — a real source of extra difficulty beyond word count alone.
Why this level is Medium
- Horizontal, vertical and diagonal words
- No reversed words
- Mixed word lengths, some less common vocabulary
- Moderate overlaps between words

Thirty-five fall words, from the shortest entries to the longest.
The shortest word ("cozy", 4 letters) helps a solver get started quickly, while the longest ("scarecrow", 9 letters) takes a careful scan.
Words run in all eight directions, including reversed, so this one rewards patience.
Vocabulary analysis

- Frequent overlaps between words

- All eight directions, including reversed words — same rule as Hard
